Creative Writing: UNElearn. Tutor: John Hay
This is a practical five-unit course designed for groups and individuals. Students initially write about their own experiences and then proceed through a step by step process to the development of ideas, how to distill experiences and shape them in a way which invests them with meaning. In the process, techniques [e.g. characterisation, dialogue, imagery and the selection of detail] will be covered, as well as research and portfolio building to impress editors.

More Advanced Creative Writing. Tutor: John Hay
This three-unit course is for individuals who wish to work on a larger project e.g. a novel; novella; family history; monograph; or a collection of short stories, essays or articles based on a central theme or location. The course is designed as a preparation for the long haul and covers in depth the idea or proposition, research strategies, and the opening of the first draft so the student is well on the way.
